Speaker supports Jumper

When I first saw the trailer for the movie, Jumper; the action, movements and the ability to jump anywhere in the world appealed to my adventurous side. Forget passports, planes, and getting frisked at airports. Ole! 

It helped that the director had previously completed Bourne Identity, a favorite of mine and many others as judged by box office appeal. I was juiced to watch Jumper! 

And oh yes, in the recesses of my memory, I had previously heard Tony Lopez speak on this same capability of transporting Star Trek, “Beam me Up” style. Tony, as a guest speaker on the NHSN 1/28/08 event, spoke on leadership. He is the author of Breakthrough Thinking: The Legacy Leader's Role in Driving Innovation.

In his presentation, he expressed how innovation occurs with drive, imagination, and mostly focused leadership. Of the many examples that Tony presented, one remained with me: instant molecular travel. Ha!  

Tony challenged the audience of 147 mostly Hispanic salespersons to create this.

I could echo the thoughts of everyone present. “I don’t know how to make it happen, but I sure know I could market it, sell it, and cash in on it while having lots of fun!”

This was a fleeting message that lingered on in my memory banks until I heard of Jumper. 

With Jumper brought to screen life, it embodied what that challenge had been. This was someone’s interpretation of “what if?”

If we think it, we will see it. If we see it, we will make it. If we make it, they will come. When they come, we will sell it. Creation. Marketing. Sales.

We know the formula. 

This is a challenge worth pursuing.

So now we need lots of atoms working in unison. How many atoms are there in the average human?

Jumper doesn’t answer such esoteric questions. It just jumps into action. 

One moment you could be on top of a mountain swaying on a hammock on a clear, fresh, sunny day, and the next on to  Paris, or  Rome, or the beaches of  Hawaii, or just to get across town.

Of course, there is a downside in the movie. Bad guys with this special jumper power will use it for robbing banks, taking chicks on blind travel dates, and will avoid paying transportation fees. They sneer at bus cards. 

With great power comes great responsibility. Thanks, Spiderman, but this Jumper stuff is much better and much cooler.

Wondering what coaching consists of?

I wonder what the life coaching really consists of? Psychology classes, Listening Skills for sure - but I bet there's a huge segment devoted to MARKETING!

Coaching is an ongoing process, much like speakers.

Many speakers, therapists, and trainers have started to put on the coaching hats.  The coaching hat complements those other professions, and they have a common element in communications.

There is a certification process for coaching offered by many institutions.  They vary in quality, quantity, and length of time.

One overwhelming aspect overlooked, as in most technical fields, is the marketing and subsequent engagement of clients.

Yet, this profession is growing as shown from the results of this survey:

- The approximate annual worldwide revenue produced by coaching is $1.5 billion (USD).

- Coaches earn an average of $50,510 (USD) per year.

- 69% percent of coaches are female.

- The average coach is 46-55 years old, has coached for 5-10 years, and 53 percent of coaches have acquired an advanced level of education (i.e., Master's Degree or Ph.D).

- The majority of coaches maintain 11 active clients at any given time.

- Coaching clients tend to be 56 percent female/44 percent male, and between 38 and 45 years of age.

The conclusion is that the business of coaching has impacted and will continue to impact the lives of individuals and businesses.

In an ever increasing fragmented and dynamic world, the presence of an effective coach provides measurable and long lasting results for the clients.

Much more so than a one time speaker with a short lived speech.

More so than a day long trainer.

More so than a consultant.

More than a writer.

The difference that makes a difference is the ongoing process that the client participates in developing and taking ownership, and ultimately, the responsibility for their results.

So the marketing path of coaching requires, being a speaker, a trainer, a consultant, a writer, a teacher, and even a seminar leader, so that it leads to the success of the business of coaching.

Video Conferencing

Introduction of Video Conferencing for use for Officer training, Advanced Club Meetings, and anything else cool we can think of.

Have any of you used this technology?

I am intrigued with this technology.

 

I have participated in a Video Conferencing in connecting remote participants.

 

In that session, there were two offices connected, with about 30 total participants.

 

Everything from a technology standpoint was smoothly conducted. There were no delays in video or sound.

 

I am in great anticipation for it to appear at the individual home/office level. The reality is that it is still in development for productive usage. Until then, the most reliable and proven method is still the phone (audio) conference.  Even the webinars are still in the developing stages and can have its glitches.

 

With the advent of skype, many can connect inexpensively on a global scale to hear and participate in a session. Recently, the announcement of skype video will propel me to check it out for personal and commercial uses. Video, more than just sound, still has the focus on how one looks & presents, in addition to the message. This will hold many people back from participating initially, and then there will be those that will "dress up" for the video.

I could see a day when I will present, teach, train, coach and mentor others with the use of video conferencing.

 

This would be fun for me.
