Miss this event and you will miss out and wait another four years!
The aftermath of the GMS on Monday is still wonderful.
The speakers that I saw and heard were, Dr. Robert Schuller, Phil Town, Peter Lowe, Zig Ziglar, Tom Hopkins, Lovie Smith, and Colin Powell.
I received a call the next day from someone that missed some of the speakers and wanted to verify with me that they had shown up. Yes, Lovie Smith took the stage, the hearts and the performance of the day! Cleverly, he was one of the last speakers to appear.
Of the crowd of about 50,000, I was unable to connect with any of my Toastmasters friends. The seating at the event was excellent and viewing the speakers was made easier with the use of multiple wide screens.
There were many highlights that kept the energy at a peak. The music, singing, beach ball bantering, and even a lunch provided session complemented the excellent speakers.
There are numerous take-aways from this GMS session that are more appropriately covered individually.
There is one ego driven moment that I indulged in the next day. In a conversation with a client, I mentioned (to emphasize a point) that I had seen Lovie Smith and he had said, "...". We are all enamored with celebrities and I used the quote to create a moment that would be remembered by my client. Same as a speech. I chuckled, later, at my cleverness in remembering the quote and using it at the right moment.
I hope and expect to be a better person from having attended. Four years is a long time to wait for the next GMS event.
See you then,
Rocky Romero
